it allows users to avoid losing data important for them. Indeed, Microsoft Word is nowadays the most popular tool for creating any documents, including corporate ones, recover information from corrupted Microsoft Word documents and templates located on corrupted media (floppy disks, CDs, DVDs, Zip drives, etc.).

Right now I am manually backing up (choosing which files I want backed up) onto an external hard drive. I love the idea of having a software program that would automate this process for me. Backing up is great and a necessity, but if you don’t actually DO it, then you aren’t protecting your files. This is something I definitely need to look in to!

I love the idea of automated backup software. I recently purchased an external hard drive to help with the backup process but I still need to actively select the files to back up and actually DO IT! I think any type of software that helps to simplify the process of protecting computer files is a must have!

I’m overly paranoid about security. I have so many passwords for so many different applications and I have passwords for my passwords!! It’s borderline ridiculous. I think encryption is a necessity when dealing with important files that are regularly in transit - you just can’t be too careful.

This is good to know, although I’m wondering if it is the same instructions for backing up files in Outlook (not Express). I do need to invest in some backup software. Just got an external hard drive for daily backups. May have to check out what you have available. Thanks for the great tips!

Well, I’m not a student anymore, so I don’t (thankfully) worry about As anymore — but thanks for the heads up. I can save this one in my computer how-to folder I’m building up. If I lose it, I guess I’ll know how to recover it

After having had a number of computer issues, I’ve found that backing up everything is essential - on macs and pcs. Fortunately, when it’s the motherboard that’s gone down in a computer, I’ve been able to salvage hard drives and convert them to external drives. That way, I’ve reclaimed the data and increased storage.

In the past I’ve always used a jump drive to backup my financial software and such, but now am finding that’s just not enough memory since I have so many photos on my hard drive. I’m actually in the process of researching an external hard drive for daily backups. They’re not cheap, but a lot cheaper than running the risk of losing all your personal and/or business data.

Boy I learned this one the hard way last week. I was having hard drive issues (still think I may need to replace the hard drive) so I did a system restore “thinking” I had backed everything up first….nope…lost all my Outlook contacts and e-mails…now I’m trying to redo everything. NOT fun!!
